Click on the links below to listen to seats with different Initial Time Delay Gaps.

The auralizations are of a cello solo played on stage as heard at four different seats in a computer model of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.

As you are listening, ask yourself which auralization makes you feel as though you are closer to the music being played

Anechoic (Dry) Recording

ITDG = 6 msec

Creating the Auralizations

The Method:

The four different seats in the Concertgebouw were chosen according to their locations in the hall. Seats closer to the walls are more likely to have short initial time delay gaps because sound waves bouncing off of the nearby wall will reach the seat soon after the sound coming directly from the source. Seats in the middle of the hall, in contrast, will have longer ITDG’s because it will take about as long for the reflected sound waves to reach the seat as it does for the initial sound.

All auralizations created usingĀ Odean Room Acoustics Software.
